Care at your Doorstep

Trusted Domiciliary Services

Domiciliary care, also known as home or visiting care, involves providing personalised support and assistance to individuals in their own homes. This type of care is ideal for those who require help with tasks such as personal care, medication management, meal preparation, and household chores for some specific number of hours in a day or week, but prefer to stay in their own environment rather than moving to a care facility.

SHA Care Services' domiciliary or home visit care services are flexible and customisable to accommodate the specific needs of each client. Our carers visit clients at home at scheduled times to provide specific services and support. SHA Care Services offer personal care, companionship, medication reminders, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation assistance to hospital and saloon appointments, shopping and more. Whether our clients require daily visit care be it for a short or long term, SHA Care Services are here to provide the support they need to live comfortably and independently at home.

Caring for Someone with Additional Support Needs

When it comes to caring for someone with additional support needs, SHA Care Services believe that it is important to ensure the person being supported has the same choice, rights and responsibilities as everyone else. Those living with specific learning difficulties should be enabled to understand information and instructions, make decisions, learn new skills and have friends. To enable this, our carers have the necessary communication skills, maintaining a routine, personal support, engaging with the client and assistance with remembering things.

Communication

SHA Care Services use accessible language, avoiding jargon and long words that may be difficult to understand. SHA Care Services aim to use different communication tools, such as easy read symbols, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication Systems) and tablet computers that can enlarge words. SHA Care Services follow the lead of the person being communicated with, speak at their pace and try to be creative.

Routine

For certain types of health conditions requiring additional support needs, such as autism, routine is crucial. SHA Care Services avoids feelings of anxiety and uncertainty around the future by following established patient routines.

Personal Support

SHA Care Services provides sensitive, respectful and dignified support to ensure that the person does not feel vulnerable.

Engagement

SHA Care Services believe that for those with certain health conditions requiring additional support needs, engaging in meaningful activity can make a huge difference and lead to an active and enjoyable life. SHA Care Services believe it is important to explore the interests and hobbies of the client, and to facilitate them in a way that will encourage a sense of independence.

Remembering

SHA Care Services know that the best of us have difficulty remembering everything but we appreciate that people with learning difficulties can find this even harder. We will use a number of techniques to assist remembering, such as:

  • Breaking information into small amounts and giving it a little at a time.
  • Giving a cue to help remember an intention to do something.
  • Use calendars, diaries and timetables, and help the client to adapt them.
  • Help to write notes and make lists and putting them in a visible place where they will catch the eye (e.g. by the front door).
  • Check what has been remembered and understanding.

Live-in Care for those Living with Additional Support Needs

With bespoke care from SHA Care Services, we will ensure that those living with additional support needs can lead a full, rewarding and independent life. Our support can range from domestic help to more personal and emotional assistance, helping with areas such as communication and social skills. We take into account the client’s individual circumstances and requirements and create a detailed care plan in line with specific needs.
